Engineering Technology Programs

The Fast Forward program in Engineering Technologies has seen continued growth and development over the past two years. Currently, partnerships exist with several area technical centers and Vermont Technical College.

Students who are enrolled in an engineering related program at their local technical center have opportunities to either take some freshman level, program specific courses or a freshman level math course. Each technical center is unique on the Vermont Technical courses available. Students are able to receive between 2 and 15 Vermont Tech credits depending on the program and their area technical center.

Students seeking Admissions into Vermont Technical College are encouraged to take Algebra I & II, Geometry, and a lab science (physics is preferred).

For students who may not have the recommended maths and sciences, additional work is available to assist the student in his/her academic pursuits.

While some students in the engineering programs choose to enter the workforce upon graduating high school and work as drafts people, students are encouraged to continue their educations in order to round out their education. Upon completing one of Vermont Tech's engineering degrees, students will be skilled in a variety of areas, which are useful during times when employability is difficult. With trends in technical careers changing rapidly, Vermont Tech links closely with key business and industry leaders to ensure needed technical skills are being addressed.

Students entering Vermont Tech can complete the two-year degree and enter the career field or they may decide to continue their education. Over the last five years, placement reports have shown a continuous increase in students pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher. This may be attributed to the poor job market Vermont has seen in the last few years. Traditionally, Vermont Tech has strived for a high placement rate (98% or higher) with degree related employment over 95 percent. Many of the graduates reported an Associates Degree salary starting in the $30,000 range.
